Weekend Report 05 – 07 February 2010

EFL Girls prepare for their partyFriday night was the second night of the fantastic school production “Back to the 80s.”  The music, dancing and colour were lively and both audience and cast thoroughly enjoyed the show.

At the same time, there were 3 St Mary’s girls at Under 17 county hockey trials at St Mary’s and others taking their regular Friday swim.

Saturday’s fixtures were a mixed bag of results. One of the most exciting fixtures was Under 12’s  7 – a – side Hockey v Hanford where many girls were playing their first match for St Mary’s.  There was such determination and great skill for such young girls and everyone who watched was really impressed.

In the evening, as well as the final night performance, over 30 girls went to a talk and a social at Milton Abbey which was thoroughly enjoyed. Younger girls had a chance to do Belly Dancing in the Drama studio after an EFL party for the UIV downwards.  Each EFL learner could invite one friend and a great time was had by all.

Wave Boarding with HewarthSunday’s Givendale-prepared Mass was beautiful and straight after that a small group set off to watch a Men’s National League hockey match at Bath University.  The sports facilities there are awesome and the match didn’t disappoint. It was 3 – 0 to Fareham at half time but Team Bath just kept calm and played excellent hockey to fight back to a 3-3 draw.  Both teams were relieved at that result as Fareham expected to lose (they are second in the league behind Team Bath) and Bath expected to win so to lose the first half 3-0 was a bit of a shock!  The girls who went were astounded at the speed of the game and picked up a few tips which they will be putting into practice when they next play!

At school, Mr Salmon did a Wave board workshop with the Hewarth girls.  This was the first time that most of them had tried out this sport but Miriam was the star as she is an expert and has been doing it for a long time!  They enjoyed the afternoon on the tennis courts but it was very cold!

UIV play Ultimate FrisbeeThe Upper IV tried out Ultimate Frisbee!  This sport is a bit like a cross between Netball and American Football, played in teams with an end zone that you have to get into with the Frisbee.  Although the cold was against them, two groups of Upper IV braved the conditions to have a thoroughly good afternoon.

We are all looking forward to our half term break and the warmer weather of March soon after that
