On Saturday 12th September Old Girls of St Mary’s were invited back to school for a Family Day. Nearly four hundred were entertained with a beautiful buffet lunch and an opportunity to see the school with an optional structured ‘Photo Treasure Hunt’ guided by current pupils. There was Face Painting and a Bouncy Castle organised for the younger visitors and tea was available to complete a day of laughter, fun, and old stories retold.
The Head, Mr Richard James, addressed the gathering at 12.30, encouraging Old Girls to put their names forward to assist in the organising of future events. He said:
"It is so important that you as Old Girls of St Mary’s feel that you belong to a group. But I need your input. I need to know what you want from an Old Girls Association. A few months ago I asked if anybody was keen to Chair an Old Girls Committee or even take responsibility for a cohort of a few years. The school can offer secretarial support, but I would love initiatives to come from you. I would love there to be regular events – different events for different age groups."
The day was such a success that there are plans to repeat the event, possibly with a Mass earlier in the day for those that would like to attend.
We were blessed with fine weather and it really was a most perfect day!
