On Wednesday 27 January we closed the Mary Ward Jubilee 400 celebrations with a beautiful whole school Mass. Fr Andrew’s sermon reflected on the qualities of Mary Ward which are still of such power to us today. Values like integrity are central to what we as a school are committed to instilling: Mary Ward’s life was devoted to living a life of truth which enabled others to live freely themselves.
Mary Ward was also a strong advocate of social justice with a clear awareness of those in need. So it was timely that we could use our fund-raising activities in the afternoon to drum up as much money as possible to send out to Haiti with Flor White our Spanish Assistant. Flor flies out on Friday with two nurses from Shaftesbury to deliver our donations by hand. Certainly the usual creative energy of the whole school was released and the now traditional jailing of staff for a handsome fee for example, was entered into with tremendous gusto.
We await final news of how much we raised and thank all the girls, staff and parents who gave so generously in every sense yesterday.
