The Lower V1 Business Studies and Economics students had the opportunity to experience university life in the Business School at Exeter University. A series of six short lectures were given by professors and the teaching team at the university. Despite sitting in a lecture theatre which could seat 250 students, all 100 attendees were able to interact with the lecturers using clickers. A question would be asked and responses from the audience were recorded using these wireless devices, instantly displaying the results as bar graphs.
Thought provoking questions were raised, for example who benefits from Globalisation? (all markets); Are we rational in our behaviour when given questions on the state of the economy? (no!); Is climate change anything to do with Business and Economics? (yes!). I think the favourite was an excellent talk on Market Segmentation and Positioning regarding the sale of caffeine rich drinks.
The girls enjoyed the ‘free lunch’ and the tour of the campus. Was this a marketing ploy or just an altruistic gesture – the University insisted it was the latter!
