St Mary’s is a Roman Catholic Girls’ School, boarding and day, founded on the principles of Mary Ward. Her vision and our mission is to educate each individual to the highest standards through fostering traditional values in the spirit of the Gospel. We are concerned with all that a girl is and could become.
Welcome to boarding at St Mary’s. Our excellent Pastoral Care and our beautiful setting create a very special community where girls are happy and secure in a relaxed and homely environment. The Mission Statement and ‘Every Child Matters’ are integral to and at the centre of life at St Mary’s. The six boarding houses nurture respect between the girls and offer them opportunities to forge new and lasting friendships, and to grow spiritually, academically and socially.
Boarding is organized into three key stages;
- Hewarth House (age 9-13, years 5-8)
- The Four Main School Houses – Givendale, Harewell, Mulwith and Newby (age 13-17, years 9-12)
- Mary Ward House (U6, year 13)
The girls are supported, cared for and guided throughout the three stages by a dedicated and enthusiastic Pastoral Team. The welfare of each individual girl is our primary concern. Boarding life is happy and busy. The girls enjoy a wonderful programme of evening and weekend activities but are also able to find time and space for growth in their relationship with God, with other people and with themselves.
There is something special about the ethos at St Mary’s which is very hard to put into words. Please use the links to find out more about life in the boarding houses and do make an appointment to come and visit us. We are very proud of our school!
