ICT
As with all educational establishments, St Mary's prides itself in keeping up with all the trends in modern technology. The ICT network at St Mary's is managed by the Head of ICT Services, Mr James Pearce, ably assisted by Mr Clive Norman (IT Systems Manager), Ross Alexander (ICT Technician) and Alex Hann (ICT Technician).
Academic studies
We recognise that Information and Communications Technology is an important tool in both the society we live in and in the process of teaching and learning. Pupils use ICT tools to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsibly, creatively and with discrimination. They learn how to employ ICT to enable rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of sources.
Our vision is for all learners in our school to become confident users of ICT so that they can develop the skills, knowledge and understanding which enable them to use appropriate ICT resources effectively as powerful tools for learning.
ICT in the Lower School
For the Key Stage 3 course we have developed a scheme of work that provide pupils with opportunities to develop their ICT capabilities in all areas of the curriculum with a stong emphasis on digital media such as the production of movies, stop-frame animation, podcasting and digital manipulation in Photoshop.
e-type
We now offer this flexible and fun web based touch typing course which is designed to help computer users of all levels to improve their typing skills. Many employers now require a recognised qualification in typing. e-type is the modern equivalent of the old RSA certificates, and teaches both speed and accuracy. It also makes an invaluable addition to a student’s CV.
