Gala Concert at Charlton Church

ImageThe Music Department got off to a flying start to the summer term when eleven girls took part in a Gala Concert held at Charlton Church with the twin towers on Friday, 18th April. It was a bitterly cold evening but there was a warm atmosphere from the congregation who packed into the church. We did not realise until we got there that the evening was to help raise funds for the installation of toilets for the disabled!

There were other musicians from the area taking part, namely The Shire Singers and Cathrine Long (Soprano) who sang the Exsultate Jubilate by Mozart.

Lissie began our St. Mary`s recital with an aria called Lascia ch`io Pianga (Let me weep my cruel fate) by Handel. This was followed by a piano trio, Clare, Emily and Jasmine playing Sempre Legato. Olivia played Morceau de Concours by Fauré on her flute and Sophie played Adagio and Allegro from a sonata in A minor by Handel on her treble recorder. Another poignant vocal solo performed by Deci called Send in the Clowns by Stephen Sondheim changed the mood of the concert and Sophie and Alex then played a piano duet called Consequential Swing. The final part of the recital was made up of Alice on flute with Dove Sono by Mozart, an evocative piece for oboe by Saint-Saëns played by Buffy and a vocal duet sung by Lissie and Genevra called Laudamus Te from the Vivaldi Gloria.

ImageThe girls did well. They were most professional in the delivery of their repertoire and the audience were very appreciative of their talents. It was good to be able to take part in something just down the road so “Well done!”
