On Tuesday 26th February 2008 our class had India Day. In the morning we were split into two groups; the year fives stayed in the classroom to do arts and crafts (Indian style of course) and the year six girls went into the Activity room to cook an Indian meal that we were going to eat for lunch.
The year six girls were split into three groups. Harry, Emily and Boo made the pudding, which looked like dough balls. They were made out of powdered milk, and then when they were cooked they were put in syrup and rose water. The balls then absorbed the sauce.
The group that Belen, Tati and I were in made chicken curry, which smelled lovely. In the other group were Tilly and Francesca who made a lovely vegetarian curry.
We had a 20 minute break and then we swapped around; the year fives did cooking and we made a lantern. We were given a jam jar each and we painted onto it Indian patterns with bright colours such as blue, red, yellow and orange. After it had dried, we gave it to Mrs Emery who tied a string handle onto them. We then braided the handle and, after that, all we had left to do was put a tea light in it.
As soon as we had finished the pots the U3s came in shortly followed by the year fives. When everyone was inside the classroom Mrs Emery showed us how to make garlands of tissue flowers. After that Flora came over and helped me with my purple, pink and blue garland, which was very helpful.
After we had all finished are garlands and the U3s had gone back to their classroom, we turned off the lights and lit our lanterns in a circle in the middle of the of the classroom floor and we sat on cushions around the candles, and we were called four by four to go and get our Indian meal that we had prepared earlier. It was delicious!!!!!!
During lunch time we all got changed into our Indian clothes. After that we all gathered in our classroom, and were told to make a dance telling the story of how tea was made.
At a quarter to three the teachers that we had invited the day before (that included Mr James, Mrs James, Mr Daley and Mrs Holman) came to our Indian tea party where we tried lots of real Indian tea. After everyone had drunk their fill, we performed the tea dances that we had put together in front of everybody which was rather embarrassing.
To end our day and relax for the ½ hour or ¼ hour left of school we quietly read our books.
