'The Little Shop of Horrors' was a huge success with capacity audiences treated to a dynamic and innovative production of this mock-horror show, once again directed by Mr Sykes and Mr Cohen.  The acting and singing were of the highest standard that the school has produced, accompanied by a very tight and disciplined rock band.  Alice (U5) was a perfect and impressive 'Seymour'  with a fantastic vocal range; Tilly (U6) brought real pathos to the role of Audrey (who can often be played too blandly with no regard for the hidden depths that musical theatre can reach) and her beautiful duet with Alice stopped the show each night.  Catherine (U6) wonderfully created the exploitative flower shop owner, Mushnick with a faultless New York Jewish accent and world-weary persona and Eliza (L5) became the worryingly demented dentist, Orin, with a voice that barely needed a radio mic, despite the rock band!  Augusta, Fi and Susie (all L6) worked brilliantly together, creating a fun and believable 'girly' camaraderie as the three street girls, Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon who act as a sort of greek chorus, bridging the gap between the characters in the story and the audience. Musical staging and supporting characters were played by a chorus of 14 which kept the action far more varied than in the rather limited forces involved in a professional production. The staging surrounded the audience with the action and the four groups of harmony singers, and the sound system, specially designed by Mr Sykes with his many years of music and sound engineering experience, combined the power of a pop concert together with the clarity needed for dramatic Musical Theatre.  Mrs Tidbury, working together with Tessa (U6), who will be studying sceneic design at university next year, designed and built the astonishing 'Audrey 2' plants, which were visually stunning and dramatically so much fun in the show, amusingly performed by Catherine(U6) and powerfully voiced by Tessa's night-club Diva vocals. The costumes hair and make-up completed the total theatrical experience, as can be seen in the photos.
