CHORAL DAY in the School Chapel

ImageSaturday, February 3rd, 2007

Requiem by John Rutter and the Anthem 'I was glad when they said unto me' by Parry.

A goodly number of singers arrived at St. Mary’s last Saturday for a choral workshop. Many had never sung the Rutter Requiem before but the weather was perfect and the day was full of expectation. Everyone worked hard for what amounted to over five hours of rehearsal time throughout the day. It was a day for meeting old friends and getting to know new people interspersed with the most delicious of food.

A performance was given to a really appreciative audience at 5.30 p.m. Two of St. Mary`s girls, Alicia and Charlotte, sang beautifully and with confidence in both of the soprano solos: Pie Jesu and Lux Aeterna. The small orchestral ensemble with organ accompanied the choir sympathetically and with great sensitivity: Organ – Richard James; Flute – Siân Williams; Oboe – Sarah Pugh; Harp – Ruth Faber; Timpani – David Beaton; Glockenspiel – Izi Onslow.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this day such a success!

The date for next year and the repertoire to be studied will be available shortly!
