This is a unique house in St Mary’s as we only have one year group in it – the Upper VI. Mrs Dee Webb, pictured above left with her husband Julian, is the housemistress of Mary Ward. We are lucky to have two wonderful House Assistants – Mrs Jo Johnson and Mrs Ellen Boote, pictured above, each of whom has been a successful business woman and mother. Each brings her individual personality to the house and adds to the spirit which is so evident when you enter.
We are very fortunate to have a purpose-built, modern building, with individual study bedrooms on two floors, clothes-washing and drying facilities, a large lounge area, dining/workroom with a small computer room attached and a kitchen. There is a balcony and garden furniture where we can have fresh air and barbecues in the summer.
What is more difficult to describe is the atmosphere in Mary Ward House. We have girls who have been friends for, in some cases, seven years and who have one final year at St Mary’s to spend in each other’s company before they leave and continue studying at University, or begin travelling around the world, or find a job. The girls love this opportunity to grow together and study together; they love to share their hopes and dreams and have so much fun doing so that they miss it so much when they leave.
It is a real honour to be Housemistress in Mary Ward House and I know that the girls appreciate the opportunities which present themselves there, every day, through every term.
