Our first Senior Inter-House Drama Festival was a huge success, involving dozens of girls across the year groups. This was a completely pupil-led event with the U6 leading their houses in the casting and direction of a one act play. On the day the whole school assembled in the main hall for a feast of fabulous character acting.

Givendale’s ‘Husbands Supplied’ was set in a dating agency where seven desperate women were in search of an ideal husband who, in this instance, was not in search of a wife.

Harewell House presented ‘Doggies’, a hilarious two-hander featuring mis-matched pair who were brought together by their dogs’ mutual attraction.

It was good to see nuns at St Mary’s again as Newby presented ‘None the Less’, a wild farce in which a small group of female crooks, who disguised themselves as nuns, are thrown into panic by the arrival of two ‘real’ nuns. However those two are also crooked and …….

Mulwith’s ‘Melons at the Parsonage’ was a one-act play festival within our one-act play festival. Two competing drama groups, with totally different theatrical styles, tie for first place and must perform a scene from each other’s play in their own style to decide the ultimate winner - brilliant style acting.

All the plays were impressively directed, performed with the usual St Mary’s panache and good humour and received rapturously by the capacity crowd.
