The Magic of Mulwith

Mulwith is most notable as being the house that is separate from the main school. This means that, as a house, we have a very strong sense of identity and close bonds within and between the year groups, as well as giving us physical space away from the class rooms.

This is definitely the house for the cookie monster, the biscuit tin in the house assistants’ room being readily available in times of trial, celebration, and knitting sessions (a growing hobby amongst many of us).

Most girls have their own rooms, which gives them some privacy; a close community it may be, but everyone needs their own space. As you progress through the school, rooms are more spacious, with increased shelving for the valuable tomes of knowledge, and wireless broadband is usually available.

All the girls have a close relationship with the house assistants Ms Hawkins and Mrs Roberts,(after all they do keep the biscuit tin)meaning that they have an impartial adult to talk to when the going gets tough.

Our common room is very cosy, with a large variety of cushions to enable such vital group activities as The X Factor and 'Happy Hours',and a brand new carpet! It’s also close to our kitchen, which is always amply stocked with staple dietary aids; toast ... lots of toast ... and large jars of chocolate spread, when I have been shopping in France.

Members of the house are presented with our resident teddy bears Minty and Mully during Friday’s house-meeting in recognition of their acts of supreme kindness or daftness.

Tidiness and respect for others are very highly regarded in Mulwith, teaching useful values for future life in the outside world. There is a prize for the tidiest room each term.

Mulwith is also a very spirited house with high sporting potential in all year groups. We were worthy winners of the Inter House Athletics last summer but sadly the inter house competitions had to be cancelled last term due to the rain.
