Mrs Angela Salmon, on the far left, is in her ninth year as the Mulwith Housemistress. She lives in the Clock House flat with her husband, David, and she has three grown up children. Her son Matthew is married and is Head of English in a Roman Catholic school in Swansea, South Wales. Her eldest daughter was married recently in Spain and is now living in Hong Kong and her youngest daughter has just started teaching Spanish in a Roman Catholic comprehensive in London. Both of her daughters attended St. Mary's from Upper 3 to Upper 6. She is very ably assisted by her two house assistants, Ms Elaine Hawkins (who is dotty about cats) and Mrs Beverly Roberts (who is dotty about her daughter, Charlotte, and a farm load of animals!).
Mulwith has a very important place in the history of Mary Ward. She was born on 23rd January 1585 at Mulwith, near Ripon and lived there until she was five. After spending several years with her grandparents, she returned to Mulwith in 1595 and lived there until 1600. It was shortly after this that she received a call to religious life. She said, " a grace which by God's mercy I have never doubted." Many of the present Mulwithians have visited Mulwith whilst on the Upper 3 trip to York.
