Academic Scholarships

SIXTH FORM (for entry into the Lower Sixth Form in September 2008)
Academic scholarships awarded at 11+ and 13+ will normally continue through to the end of the Sixth Form. One further academic scholarship at up to 10% of full day or boarding fees is offered each year.  The scholarship is offered for the two years of Sixth Form study.  The scholarship is open to both internal and external candidates.

FOR EXTERNAL CANDIDATES

There will be a series of examinations consisting of a general intelligence paper, a general essay paper and papers for two of the four AS subject choices.  If one of the choices is a Modern Foreign Language, an aural component will be included.

Internal Candidates

The candidate’s mock examination results will form the basis of the selection process together with:

1.    A letter of application from the candidate – to be submitted to the Head by Monday 3rd December 2007.

2.    An interview with a panel which may include the Head, Deputy Head, Head of Sixth Form, Director of Studies and/or  some Heads of Departments. The interviews will take place on Wednesday 16th January 2008.

Scholarship candidates are expected to achieve at least eight GCSE passes, with Grade A in at least the three A level choices.  Sixth form scholars are expected to make a significant contribution to the life of the school

13+ (for entry into Year 9 in September 2008)

  One Academic scholarship is offered at up to 10% of full day or boarding fees. This scholarship will normally continue through to the end of the Sixth Form.

The selection process is as follows:

External Candidates

1.    The candidate will take the school entrance examination which will include a special scholarship extension paper.

2.    The candidate will have an interview with a member of the Senior Management Team on the day of the entrance examination.

3.    St Mary’s will request a testimonial and report from the present school. 

4.    Common Entrance mock results will be taken into account in the awarding of Academic Scholarships.

Internal Candidates

1.    The candidate will sit the school entrance examination papers which will include a special scholarship extension paper.

2.    The candidate will have an interview with a member of the Senior Management Team on the day of the entrance examination.

3.    The candidate’s school reports for the year and last set of examination results will be taken into account.

This scholarship will be awarded in February but is subject to confirmation following the publication of Common Entrance results in June.

One Academic scholarship is offered at up to 10% of full day or boarding fees. This scholarship will normally continue through to the end of the Sixth Form.

2.    The candidate will have an interview with a member of the Senior Management Team on the day of the entrance examination.

3.    The candidate’s school report for the Autumn Term will be taken into account.

11+ Catholic Primary School Scholarship

(for entry into Year 7, in September 2008)

The Local Catholic Primary Academic Scholarship is a closed external scholarship only open to children at the following schools: St Mary’s Marnhull, Wardour Primary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Primary School, Wincanton and St George's, Warminster. A day scholarship may be awarded annually to a Catholic girl of academic merit, who would otherwise not seek admission. The scholarship will be for up to 50% of the fees in accordance with parental means and will normally continue through to the end of the Sixth Form subject to a satisfactory annual review.
