VI Form Information Pages

The Sixth Form is a tremendous time. While there are still considerable pressures upon you in terms of public examinations, it is a period of just under two years where you will find yourself rising to new challenges and moving towards the independence of university or working life.

"Mind those books, signorina," was his greeting, as I stumbled over a pile near the door, "they are meant to be read, not trodden on."

ImageCareers at St Mary's: Sixth Form Careers Education builds on the knowledge and skills which the girls have been developing throughout the school. The Majority of girls from St Mary's Sixth Form go on to Higher Education and a great deal of time and energy is devoted to supporting the girls as they go through the process of applying to University through UCAS. UCAS has a section of its website dedicated to parents and this can be accessed via the link. Girls access the UCAS website with their own password and apply to University online. They track their choices and offers online and eventually reply online. The UCAS website guides students through the process closely and provides information on key dates as well as student finance.

Some girls decide not to apply to University perhaps deferring for a year or more. Some girls also decide they do not want to follow a degree course and go on to other forms of work based training or vocational courses. Girls are guided and supported throughout this process by their tutors, the Head of Sixth Form and by our visiting Careers Guidance Practitioner.
